The purpose of this class is to compare and contrast the history, culture and present day status of various indigenous groups in the Pacific both in and near Japan. In doing so, students will gain a deeper understanding into what factors have affected these groups over time and how they have adapted, with the main objective being cultural empathy and understanding for indigenous cultures in general.
